ABOUT ME

Zachary Bartolomei is a Saxophonist, Composer and Educator based in Easthampton, MA. He received a Master’s of Music degree in Jazz Composition and Arranging at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he performed with and was Assistant Director of the award-winning Jazz Ensemble I, and was co-director of the Jazz Lab Ensemble. He also received a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Studies from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford, where he was a student of Abraham Burton and Rene McLean. As a performer, Zachary has been featured at the Vermont Jazz Center’s Emerging Artists Festival, the Northampton Jazz Festival, and the Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival, and has performed at numerous venues across New England and New York. His composition “Forest Green & Various Hues” was also featured at the 2017 New England Saxophone Symposium, where it was performed by the UMass Amherst Jazz Ensemble I and guest soloist Steve Wilson. Currently, Zachary is a Teaching Artist at the Community Music School of Springfield, where he teaches woodwinds and music technology for the Sonido Musica program. He also leads his ensemble, the Zachary Bartolomei Quartet, which draws inspiration from 70’s jazz-funk, 80’s fusion, and 90’s neo-soul to create a groove-based improvisational experience for mind and body. In addition to himself, the group features Parker McQueeney on keyboard, Joey Sicard on bass, and Kevin Mason on drums.
